You can find us bright and early every Saturday morning at the New Smyrna Beach Farmers' Market, located on Julia Street and in front on City Hall. We're always set up right next to the weekly live music!! What a treat- be it a wonderful steel drum player (takes me back to my vacations on St. Maarten), or the fabulous Beu Sisters- I get to sit and spin in time to the music!! Please don't play too too fast!! This market stresses local products from organically raised produce to beautiful arts and crafts to plants and orchids to the best bagels around! We are fortunate to be a part of it all! We specialize in several unique items not found in the area.
I sell my hand-spun, hand-dyed alpaca, sheep, silk, and other plant fiber yarns, bamboo knitting needles, sweet little metal scissors cases, meant to worn on a chain around one's neck, I'm happy to arrange to give knitting and spinning lessons for folks who would like to pursue these ancient crafts.
We have wonderful goats milk soap in twenty three essential oil scents, made by a gal across the state with the help of here 14 year old daughter! They have a herd of forty dairy goats and manufacture the soap one their farm. Simply Caprine, their brand name, says it all- simple, hypo-allergenic ingredients that feel wonderful on the skin and leave a lovely scent as well! We all carry their body balm and lip balm in several delicious scents- guaranteed to gently nourish and protect one's skin.
Sweetwater Farm, a boutique in rural Tennessee, provides us with six to eight varieties of cheese, depending on the length of the ageing process! We usually have Gouda, Onion and Chives, Smoked Gouda, Mild Cheddar, Smoked Cheddar, Jalapeno, Monterey Jack, and Colby- all made from a fantastic blend of Holstein and Jersey cows' milk and absolutely delicious! And remember, Dr. Oz recently stated on his show that the particular qualities of Gouda cheese act as anti-oxidants to protect against cancer! As if great taste weren't enough! And, of course, we offer free samples of all of the above!
We also carry imported Peruvian alpaca teddy bears, finger puppets, alpacitas, and socks. We are trying to keep as many products as possible hand-made, but these also do help the folks in Peru to maintain their alpaca herds and to provide an improved life style in an economically challenged country. Ditto for our silk and banana fiber (!) yarns from Nepal! The silk is remnants from saris and fashioned into exciting yarns- most unusual!! Let your knitting make both a fashion and socially conscious statement.
We now sell "It's for the Birds!" double suet feeders with a very clever aspect. They will hold a square of suet (included) on one side and on the other will be scraps of roving for the birds to take to line their nests!! They are completely adorable- please check them out!!
